28 September 2005

By the looks of all the bleary eyes in the morning nobody got any sleep. It had been so rough that the wine glasses fell out of their holder in the bar. We were navigated around “Kicker Rock” a cone formation rising from the ocean that is supposed to look like a sleeping lion – hmm don’t know about that one. We did have a visitor – a seagull had landed on the deck and wasn’t afraid of anyone just kept on lying where it wanted to.
We were off to the airport 3 hours before our flight left but arrived in Guayaquil late that afternoon. Guayaquil was a nice surprise – much more modern, prosperous and cleaner than Quito. You could see it in the type of cars – they didn’t belch out billows of god awful smoke!
There is a park “Iguana Park” where the ancestors of those from
Galapagos run around – masses of them just there in the park; will have to go back tomorrow with the camera. There is also a great promenade with lovely botanical gardens.

We walked for an hour and ½ and then back to the hotel for a couple of drinks, next door for pizza and then to the room to watch a bit of TV before sleep.
