26 September 2005

It was another rough night so much so that stuff was flying off the bedside drawers. No hot water this morning and the toilet was blocked for a while – great start!
We went ashore to Espanola Island which has one of the most varied seabird colonies and of course with the sea come more sea lions! The trail we walked was very rocky and hard going. The sea lions and the pups were out in force and we saw masked boobies, the Galapagos gull and a small variety of albatross. These were fascinating to watch and we were lucky enough to see a mating ritual consisting of the clicking of the beaks. We also saw the blowhole where water shoots up to 22m in the air.

In the afternoon we have sailed onto Gardner Bay for swimming and deep water snorkelling. George went ashore and I had a lovely afternoon sitting on the deck, with my bottle of wine (opened by finding a cork screw behind the bar!) and read for the afternoon.
Tomorrow it’s back to Santa Cruz and the Charles Darwin Research Centre.
